Dictionary Definition : Laura: Also known as "Solveig", her internet pseudonym, this female specimen of Homo Sapiens founded the Literary Cabinet world. One can spot "Laura," by the fun she has grading papers and drinking coffee, with triple coffee consumption ever since she quit smoking. Like another species, Homo Sapiens Zarasahanous, she enjoys picking at the extreme Twilight fans. This specimen is particularly fond of procrastinating, as most of the other species of the Literary Cabinet Universe are.

PostSubject: Urban Legends   Wed Apr 08, 2009 3:22 pm

I recently bought a nice little book that contains a lot of urban legends, each with its own history (where did it first turn up, what variations are there in it etc.), and I found they actually are really interesting. For one, they tell a lot about people's way of thought and conveying thoughts and fears. Many of the short stories are really aimed at scaring the living daylights out of the recipients. Secondly, they are a separate category of short story: They follow particular conventions, and are all conveyed in telling rather than reading. I am planning to do some more research in this field, perhaps I could write a paper on that. Does anyone of you know any studies or articles that might help me?

Dictionary Definition : Rodent - Homo Rodentiensis is a typical LC creature. Always ready to laugh about stupidity, this being has long occupied a special moderator status on the LC. As one of the very few LC creatures who actually can get and keep a partner, she is the object of constant envy. Though madness is not part of the average Rodents characteristics, this particular feature can at times be subject to change, especially when striken by severe sleep deprivation.

I don't know if you get this channel where you are, but the History Channel has a show called Urban Legends. It is really fun to watch. They give you 3 different urban legends and you have to decide which ones are true and which ones are false. At the end when they reveal which is true and which is not, they also tell when and why it came about.

Here is the link, sadly, it doesn't give any information other than the times it comes on, but maybe you can find somewhere to watch it on the internet.
